Most people have heard of the cities of Chicago, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Miami. But have you ever heard of a place known as Jackson, New Jersey? I can guarantee that some people have, especially anyone that is huge into loving roller coasters! A little corporation (figuratively speaking) known as Six Flags owns an amusement industry destination in Jackson. Six Flags Great adventure is home to 57 rides (taken from GAInsider), with 13 coasters, some of them being world class. The Runaway Mine Train that opened in 1974 is Great Adventure’s oldest operating coaster. Runaway Mine Train officially opened three days after the park did, and operated by itself until 1975 when three other roller coasters opened. Great Adventure offers an assortment of flat rides, ranging from the extreme, mind blowing erUPtion, to the gentle and kiddie based Enchanted Teacups. Great Adventure opened a brand new kid’s section called the Wiggle’s World back in the Movie Town area of the park. The park has also added several other attractions in the past few years, such as the addition of Nitro (2001), adding erUPtion and Superman: Ultimate Flight (2003), adding SpongeBob SquarePants: The Ride (2004), adding the record breaking Kingda Ka, which reaches the height of 456’ and speeds of 128 mph (2005), adding the record breaking El Toro, with the steepest drop on a wooden coaster (2006), and the addition of The Dark Knight (2008).
