Six Flags Over Georgia announces Name a Monster contest (Apr 9, 2009)
The monsters are getting some new friends at the mansion this May, and one of them needs a name. Six Flags Over Georgia today launched the Name a Monster contest, inviting the public to pick a name for Monster Mansion’s new animatronic photographer.
he monster photographer was born in a marsh near Macon in 1949 and moved to Atlanta in 1967, where he got his first job as a member of the opening day crew at Six Flags Over Georgia. He was instrumental in the founding of Monster Plantation when it opened its doors to monsters all around the South. Throughout the decades, he has captured many of Six Flags’ crowning moments as the park’s official Head of Photography.
Entries will be accepted through April 24. Participants may pick up an entry form at any of the park’s retail locations or may submit an email that includes the reason the name was chosen and their contact information to sfogmonstercontest@gmail.com. Once the entry period closes, Six Flags Over Georgia will post five names for public voting online at sixflags.com from May 1 – 12. The individual whose Monster name receives the most votes will be awarded four 2009 Season Passes and a Monster plush.
“This contest is a fun way for the public to get involved as we prepare to open this wonderful attraction,” said Park President Melinda Ashcraft. “Monster Mansion will have some amazing new characters and more 4D effects than any ride in the world. I’m excited to learn the name of our new little monster.”
Formerly Monster Plantation, the newly renovated Monster Mansion will open May 16 with eight new characters, a full slate of 4D effects and a major makeover to the existing 97 characters.
